‘I know something interesting is sure to happen, whenever I eat or drink anything…’

Alice, Lewis Carroll’s curious adventuress who always took pleasure in questions of eating and drinking, would have been hopping around like a happy, healthful bunny at the prospect of partaking of the creative food festivals across ITC this June.

Take a Trail through Whisky Wisdom

Posted by: The Gastronaut on Thursday August 21, 2014

IN THE DIM LIGHT OF THE SEASONED LIVING ROOM sat the grownups. Each cradled a cut crystal Glencairn glass in their palms, with gravitas. At the bottom of each glass, glowed a smidge of amber. One day soon, we promised, we too would lay claim to it. Sepia-tinted memories of our first sighting of the water of life, confirm that even four-year-olds can sense the aura of whisky that has been aged for at least as long as themselves.

World Cup in Brazil, Action in Your City

Posted by: The Gastronaut on Wednesday June 11, 2014

THINK OF BRAZIL and most of us picture a collage of samba dancers, beaches, caipirinhas, and of course, a style of football that puts paid to all partisanship. There are also macaws and toucans, but with the FIFA World Cup kicking off in São Paulo in a few days, they’re probably flying over or frantically tuning in, along with the rest of the world.

World Cocktail Week: Riding on Cocktails’ Fabulous Coattails

Posted by: The Gastronaut on Tuesday May 13, 2014

YOU DON'T REALLY NEED AN OCCASION TO LEAN OVER the counter and ask the bartender for a bellini or a caipirinha. But along comes one our way. World Cocktail Week . It’s been around for a while now; kicked off in 2006 to mark the 200th year of the cocktail and instituted to promote appreciation for the craft of the cocktail. Arusuvai Vrindhu: A Quiet, Noble, Sixer of a Feast

Posted by: The Gastronaut on Thursday March 6, 2014

MANY DECADES AGO AT a banquet, I had that transformative  across-a-crowded-room moment – clear as a raga interpreted by Aruna Sairam. It came in the form of a neat heap of  white rice and a brief pour of enigmatic rasam.

ITC Grand Chola: A Golden Age

Posted by: Nakul Anand on Tuesday June 11, 2013

Last week, when my car drove up the sweeping driveway of ITC Grand Chola, a thought flashed through my mind. It was of the circuit I had embarked on with ITC more than three decades ago in Chennai. A circuit which came full circle in the autumn of 2012 with the launch of ITC Grand Chola in the capital of Tamil Nadu. Many of us know that circumambulation is considered an act of devotion in many spiritual contexts.

The Early Bird Nets a Catch

Sharing, they say is caring. I’m a believer and I have great news to share.

September 15, 2012 saw the much awaited inauguration of ITC Grand Chola – a magnificent structure that is both testament and tribute to Southern India’s imperial Chola dynasty. In its grandeur and royalty, splendid columns and stairways, granite carvings and vast spaces, ITC Grand Chola is an inspired rendition of the vision of the Great Masters.

Ottimo – The Large-hearted Italian Embrace

Posted by: The Hummer on Tuesday September 25, 2012

Today’s dining options are like TV channels. There’s a glut that requires endless surfing till we’ve landed on the right show. Now what if we knew exactly what we wanted: a film by Hitchcock or Ragù alla Bolognese made the way you had it back on that visit to Milan. Youtube or your local DVD shop may well provide you a way to get your Hitchcock, but who’s going to get you your authentic Bolognese?
